Many high school students are involved in a variety of different clubs for a variety of different reasons. This week, we asked Utah high school students: "What clubs do you belong to and why?"
"I'm in Skills USA. I like it because it's like a vocational class, and I'm very interested in drafting and architecture. It's just a fun club." — David Tate, junior, Viewmont High School
"Choir, and that's it because I have way too much stuff going on (such as EMT and college) to be doing a lot of extracurricular activities sponsored by the school." — Bryson Lystrup, senior, Lone Peak High School
"I belong to FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) because it's super cool and I get to work on Web sites with my friends. And there's free food." — Ryan Buchanan, sophomore, Viewmont
"I am in the Theatre Club because I like performing. I'm in the Foreign Language Club because I like to speak French. I'm in the Key Club because I like helping people, and I like keys." — Robyn Krieser, senior, Grantsville High School
"I am a member of the U.S. History Club because it's a chance to associate with people who share the same deep interest in history that I have." — Andrew Welch, junior, Lone Peak
"I go to Swing Club. My friends just suggested I should come, and I decided there are some really hot guys who are really good dancers. Besides, there are some really exciting things that happen." — Amanda Alexander, junior, Viewmont
"I'm in the Ping-Pong Club because I really enjoy ping-pong, and it's a good way to meet other people who like to play ping-pong and keep in shape and be competitive with ping-pong." — Brent Mouritsen, senior, Grantsville
"I'm in the FBLA because it's way cool, way fun, and there are really cool people you get to meet." — Heather Atkin, senior, Grantsville
"I joined the Redhead Club for obvious reasons. I also joined the German Club because my friend was at the sign-up and said I didn't have to speak German to join, and also because they were handing out stuff." — Tyler Wood, senior, Lone Peak
"I'm in the Fencing Club. I enjoy it because it's something different than the stereotypical high school club. It allows me to experience a world of new people, fighting styles and overall new things." — Joshua Pineault, senior, Viewmont
"I'm in the National Honor Society because it is very service-oriented, and it makes me feel good inside." — Tyson Cook, senior, Grantsville
"I'm in DECA because I get extra credit for it." — KamiAnne Stagg, senior, Viewmont
"A club I am involved in is the Peak Club. We run during the winter to stay in shape for our other seasons of running, and we run in the summer. We do this so we can be prepared for cross country and track." — Daniel Clayton, senior, Grantsville
