SAN DIEGO — Cory Sullivan tied a major league record by hitting two triples during a seven-run fifth inning, helping Colorado rout the San Diego Padres 10-4 Sunday for a three-game Rockies' sweep.
He hit a leadoff triple off Jake Peavy (1-1) and the other off Chan Ho Park after left fielder Terrmel Sledge fell down while trying to catch his fly ball at the warning track. It was the 11th time a big leaguer hit two triples in an inning, the first since Gil Coan of the Washington Senators on April 21, 1951.
Jason Smith homered twice and drove in a career-high four runs, and Brad Hawpe drove in three runs on a homer and a triple. Colorado had 18 hits and completed its first three-game sweep in San Diego since April 17-19, 2001.
DIAMONDBACKS 7, BREWERS 0: At Milwaukee, Claudio Vargas and three relievers combined on a four-hitter to help the Arizona send Milwaukee to its first loss of the season.
METS 3, MARLINS 2: At New York, David Wright hit a tying triple in the seventh off Dontrelle Willis and a sacrifice fly against Carlos Martinez (0-1) in the ninth.
New York got hitless relief from Duaner Sanchez and Billy Wagner (1-0) after Tom Glavine gave up a two-run double to Josh Willingham in the sixth. The Mets improved to 4-1 while the Marlins dropped to 1-4.
PHILLIES 6, DODGERS 3, DODGERS 6, PHILLIES 2: At Philadelphia, Bobby Abreu hit a three-run homer off Tim Hamulack (0-1) in the ninth inning of the opener as the Phillies avoided their first 0-5 start since 1934. Tom Gordon (1-1) earned his first win for Philadelphia, striking out two in the ninth. Gordon and two other relievers did not allow a hit in three scoreless innings. In the second game, Brad Penny (2-0) threw four-hit ball over seven innings and put the Dodgers ahead 2-1 in the fourth with a broken-bat bloop single off Jon Lieber (0-2). Los Angeles outhit Philadelphia 15-7.
PIRATES 5, REDS 3: At Cincinnati, Jack Wilson hit a two-run homer and Pittsburgh ended a season-opening six-game losing streak, its worst since 1974.
Victor Santos (1-1) got his first win for the Pirates, allowing two runs and four hits in 5 1-3 innings. Roberto Hernandez got three outs for the save, stopping Cincinnati's four-game winning streak.
Dave Williams (0-1) lost to his former team in his first start for the Reds since they acquired him in December for first baseman Sean Casey. Williams gave up three runs — two earned — and five hits in six innings.
GIANTS 6, BRAVES 5: At San Francisco, Randy Winn blooped a single to shallow right field to score the winning run after Lance Niekro led off the ninth with a homer off Chris Reitsma (0-1). Chipper Jones sprained his right ankle and twisted his right knee in the eighth. The Braves' third baseman charged in on Mike Matheny's slow roller with two outs, appearing to get his spikes caught in the soggy field.
Barry Bonds walked twice, grounded out and struck out looking, remaining stalled at 708 home runs one week into the season.
Andruw Jones tied the game 4-4 with a three-run homer off Jason Schmidt in the sixth, and Edgar Renteria gave the Braves the lead on a seventh-inning double. Tim Worrell (1-0) pitched the ninth.
ASTROS 7, NATIONALS 3: At Houston, Andy Pettitte (1-1) allowed three runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings, rebounding from an awful first start. Pettitte also had an RBI single and scored a run.
Adam Everett had three RBIs. Ryan Drese (0-1) allowed one run and five hits in four innings, his first action since shoulder surgery in September.
CUBS 8, CARDINALS 4: At Chicago, Michael Barrett hit a grand slam off Jason Isringhausen in the eighth inning, and the Chicago Cubs beat St. Louis to complete a three-game sweep.
