OGDEN — A man charged with murder in connection with the Feb. 3 shooting death of a West Haven man has been bound over for trial and has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
Warren Dee Fellows, 44, has been charged with first-degree felony murder by prosecutors who claim Fellows fatally shot Art Backus, 48, during an argument. Fellows also is charged with first-degree felony aggravated robbery, second-degree felony aggravated assault and third-degree felony aggravated assault.
Second District Judge Pamela Heffernan on Wednesday scheduled a competency review for Fellows on May 30, after Fellows is evaluated for any mental health problems.
During the altercation in February, prosecutors say Fellows aimed a pair of guns at deputies who had responded. One deputy fired at Fellows, hitting him twice. He recovered at McKay-Dee Hospital before being transferred to the Weber County Jail.
The deputy involved, Sgt. Jeff Pledger of the Weber County Sheriff's Office, has been cleared of any wrongdoing in shooting Fellows.
