John F. Greenig 1925 ~ 2006 John Franklin Greenig died peacefully May 5, 2006. He was born in Salt Lake City Dec. 2, 1925. He graduated from South High in 1944, where he was known for his basketball skills, being nicknamed the California Streak. John was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings mainly working with the youth and the Boy Scouts, but his greatest love was his four years of service in the Seattle Temple. John received three years of advanced training and became a certified shorthand court reporter. He established a court reporting service and school with his brother, Ned. They provided a major part of this legal service in the Salt Lake and surrounding areas for many years. He finished his career with the Utah court system, working with the honorable Judge Bunnell. Johns 14 year military service began in 1944 with the 503rd parachute infan-try regiment assigned for combat in the Pacific Theater of Operations, mainly in the Philippine Islands. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in Germany and was also a member of the National Guard for many years. He married Gaye Fotheringham in Dec 1953; later divorced. Married Karen Hymas in May 1979; later divorced. John is survived by his wife, Verna; son, John Scott (Karen); daughters, Susan Lynn, Laurie Young (Terry), Jodi Schoeneck (Dave), Robin Telesco (Chris), Stacy Knox (Alan), Tiffany Jane Greenig; grandchildren, Ambyr Pendleton (Tod), Brandon Schoeneck (Stephanie), Mary, Davie, April, Abbie, Heather, Lacie, Summer, Jessica, Tristan; great-grandchildren, Braya, Kiyha, and Evie; stepchildren, Lynn Woodbury (Paul), Michael Kokkola (Debra), Deborah DeBoer (Robert), Michelle Brown (Sheldon), Jason Kokkola (Carrie); step-grandchil-dren, Alex, Jaynie, Jeff, Eric, Brandon, Brittany, Tyler, Zachary, Jacob, Amanda, Emily, Ilise, Olivia, Katelyn, Nicholas, Joshua, Hannah, Brooks; sisters, Doris Stagg and Jane Paulson (Fred). John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Orel Greenig; his sister, Marilyn Mae Ruff; and brother, Ned Greenig. John lived most of his life in Utah. His love of horses is legendary especially paint horses which he raised for many years. His daughter, Robin, is carrying on this tradition which made John very proud. His love of the outdoors, boating, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, and hunting has also been passed to his children whom he loved dearly and they have fond memories spent with their dad. John loved to spend time with his son, Scott, in the mountains and fishing lakes and rivers of Utah. John was dearly loved by his family and close friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 10, 2006, 1 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Mortuary, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 S). Family, friends, and associates are welcome to gather one hour prior to the service Wed-nesday. Internment at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 East 4580 South.
