RIVERTON — Utah's newest post office will be named for two Riverton brothers who died serving in the U.S. military.
The post office, to be dedicated Monday, is located at 12760 S. Park Ave. It will be known as the Mont and Mark Stephensen Veterans Memorial Post Office Building.
The building was named by legislation introduced in the U.S. Congress last year by Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah.
Capt. Mont Stephensen served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was killed when his plane was shot down over Germany on Dec. 23, 1944. He was buried in Riverton with full honors.
Air Force Lt. Col. Mark Stephensen fought in Vietnam and was shot down on a reconnaissance flight over Hanoi. He was reported missing in action April 29, 1967. He was officially declared dead in 1978, but it wasn't until 1988 that his remains were found and he was buried in Riverton with full honors.
The new post office will replace the old Riverton post office at 1849 W. 12600 South. The 24,550-square-foot building will include a postal store, an automated postal center open 24 hours a day and a drive-through mail drop.
