The son of Miami Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga pleaded no contest to drunken driving for a 2003 incident in which he's accused of hitting a pedestrian, his attorney told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
Robert Ray Huizenga, 44, entered the plea Monday to a felony DUI charge and a misdemeanor count of refusing to submit to a blood/breath test, attorney David Bogenschutz said.
Bogenschutz said Huizenga did so to preserve his right to appeal legal issues in the case, the newspaper reported.
Huizenga was attempting to make a left turn on Dec. 5, 2003, when he drove into the path of a 71-year-old male, who suffered head and leg injuries, according to police reports.
Sentencing has been scheduled for Sept. 22. Huizenga faces up to six years in prison.
PACKERS, BROWNS TRADE: The Cleveland Browns on Tuesday acquired defensive back Therrian Fontenot from Green Bay for wide receiver Carlton Brewster to give their injury-riddled secondary some depth.
Fontenot, an undrafted rookie free agent last season, appeared in one game on special teams and spent the rest of the year on the Packers' practice squad.
The Browns needed to add a defensive back because of injuries to cornerbacks Gary Baxter and Daylon McCutcheon, who both may not be ready for the season opener Sept. 10.
Brewster was signed by the Browns in May as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Ferris State. He caught three passes for 21 yards in two preseason games.
MOORE OUT: San Francisco 49ers linebacker Brandon Moore will be sidelined for at least a week with a strained knee.
Moore, a fifth-year pro who became a starter last season, was injured during the 49ers' 23-7 preseason loss to the Oakland Raiders on Sunday night. Rookie Parys Haralson also is sidelined indefinitely with a foot injury, and both will miss Saturday's game at Dallas.
The 49ers also cut linebacker David Dixon, a rookie free agent from a community college.
CARDS ACQUIRE GORIN: The Arizona Cardinals acquired offensive tackle Brandon Gorin from the New England Patriots on Monday in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick.
The 6-foot-6, 308-pound lineman played in 32 games, 18 of them as a starter, for New England. He started at right tackle the final eight regular season games and both playoff games last year and the final 10 regular-season games and all three playoff games in 2004.
The acquisition is an attempt to shore up the Cardinals' thin and suspect offensive line. Projected starting right tackle Oliver Ross is out until at least the second week of regular season following arthroscopic knee surgery.
HUFF DOUBTFUL: First-round draft pick Michael Huff will be doubtful for the Oakland Raiders' exhibition game Friday night because of a sprained left ankle.
Huff, the No. 7 overall pick in April's draft, injured his ankle in the second quarter of Sunday night's 23-7 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. He hurt himself when he slipped on the infield dirt at the Coliseum, which is also used for Oakland Athletics baseball games.
