Former BYU star football player Glen Redd — who was a defensive anchor on the "Miracle Bowl" team that edged SMU in the 1980 Holiday Bowl — passed away Saturday following a battle with cancer. He was 49.
Redd, an All-WAC linebacker in 1979 and 1980, was a star athlete in both football and baseball at Ogden High before his college playing days. He jumped from BYU to the NFL, playing for the New Orleans Saints from 1981-86 and leading the team in tackles two of those seasons.
Redd was living and raising his family in Plain City, Weber County, at the time of his passing. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Cindi, and three children — Clint (15), Lexi (14) and Kadi (11).
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Plain City LDS Stake Center (4630 West, 2150 North in Plain City). In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Glen H. Redd Benefit at any America First Credit Union.
