The Davis School District is currently accepting applications from students who wish to transfer from their assigned secondary school to another secondary school, including sixth-graders advancing to seventh grade.
Those wishing to transfer must fill out a boundary variance form and drop it off at the requested school by Friday, Feb. 23. This includes incoming high school students who may be affected by boundary changes coming this fall and current high school students who will have siblings in their school in the coming school year.
Boundary variance forms are available in all secondary school offices or online at the districts Web site.
The High School No. 8 temporary office (402-7900) is located in a portable on the south end of Building G-5, Freeport Center and is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Students who currently attend a school on a boundary variance will be allowed to remain at the variance school until they complete the highest grade level offered at that school. At that point, if the student wants to continue attending a school other than their assigned school, a boundary variance form must be submitted again.
After the forms are received, the school will determine if the variance request falls within new criteria established by the board of education because of changing high school boundaries.
If the request does not fit within the new criteria, the district will then include the request in a random drawing to determine which students will be granted a transfer. All students who are granted transfers will be contacted by the school they will transfer to.
Since there are generally more requests for transfers in the district's secondary schools than slots available, the district has chosen — with the exception of the criteria established due to new high school boundaries — to randomly select the students who are in the boundary variance pool. Those who are not selected may be placed on a waiting list at the school.
If a variance is granted, transportation becomes the responsibility of the parents or guardians.
