PARK CITY — The Julie Nester Gallery in Park City has been up and running for nearly three years. The renovated warehouse in the Iron Horse District, with its lofty ceilings, white walls and light-drenched space, is the ideal venue for two- and three-dimensional art of nearly any size.
Nester, her husband Doug and their two young daughters, moved to Park City from San Francisco in 2004 and opened the gallery in December of that year.
"We moved here because we thought it was going to be a good move for the whole family," Nester said. "Part of our plan was to open a gallery in Park City because it seemed the next logical step in my career. If I didn't do it when we moved here, I probably never would have done it."
With more than 15 years experience in the art-consulting business in the Bay Area, Nester worked with private and corporate clients to develop their art collections. At the same time she was employed at both the Dolby Chadwick Gallery and the Andrea Schwartz Gallery in San Francisco.
Nester's abilities allow her to work with local homeowners and businesses, taking several pieces to a location, deciding what is appropriate, then returning with more pieces that reflect the particular style desired by the collector. The gallery specializes in contemporary art and represents a number of emerging, mid-career and established artists from around the United States and Canada.
"Our goal is to represent contemporary artwork that is fresh, unique and accessible," said Nester.
The gallery's roster includes such established artists as David Levinthal and Tom Judd, whose work is included in numerous museums and in public and private collections. Nester also represents emerging artists, such as Robin Denevan and Kirsten Stolle, who are building reputations and collector bases.
With original paintings, mixed-media prints, photography and sculpture, the Nester Gallery's diverse art encompasses figurative work, landscapes and lyrical abstractions.
Through July 2, gallery visitors will have an opportunity to see the caliber of Nester's represented artists in the "Spring Group Show."
Next month painter, sculptor and installation artist Whitney Nye, based in Portland, Ore., will be the featured artist.
