LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers welcomed Elder Robert D. Hales of the Quorum of the Twelve to the pitcher's mound for Mormon Night at Dodgers Stadium on Thursday, July 19.

Elder Hales held his own, throwing the ceremonial first pitch right into the glove of his catcher, Elder Nelson D. Cordova, a newly called Area Seventy.

The 51,651 fans, including more than 5,000 Church members, attending the game were treated to an explosive night of baseball. The two teams delivered 35 hits in the New York Mets' 13-9 victory, including a crowd-pleasing home run by Church member and Dodger second baseman Jeff Kent.

Another highlight of the evening was a powerful pregame performance of the national anthem by soprano Keiko Clark of the Redondo 1st Ward, Torrance California Stake.
