Glen Edwards taught art at Utah State University for some 32 years. His own art was known for its ability to capture "real" people, often at work in the old West.

His paintings have been exhibited in juried exhibitions locally, nationally and internationally. He has received US Art Magazine Bronze Medal Award of Excellence, was part of the Arts for the Parks National Traveling Exhibit, received Best of Show at the Intermountain Society of Artists Third Annual Exhibit, and Best of Show and Purchase Awards at the Festival of the American West, among other honors.

"Growing up in southern Idaho taught me to appreciate the land, people, animals, machinery and strong work ethic of farm and ranch country," he has written.

Over the years, he has also taught multitudes of students, many who have gone on to achieve national recognition of their own.

Those two elements of Edwards' career will be highlighted at the Glen Edwards Alumni Show, which is being held in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the Utah State University art department. The show is being held at the Apple Frame Gallery, 70 N. Main, Bountiful, and runs through Nov. 17.

In addition to art by Edwards, the show will feature art by Luke Frazier (featured artist by the Greenwich Workshop this month), Michael Albrechtsen, Jason Rich, Jared Sanders, Cary Henrie, Michael Malm, Robert Coombs, Paul Mann, Greg Olsen, J. Kent Spencer, Joseph Alleman, Keith Bond, Scott Brough, David Carter, Kelley Donovan, Lily Toy Hong, David Koch, Keith Larson, Chad Poppleton, Jason Rich and Scott Snow.

The show represents a great chance to see works by some of these artists. "Many are nationally recognized but do not have gallery representation in Utah," says Thomas R. Howell, of the Apple Frame Gallery.

Due to "the importance of the event and the respect associated with the participating artists," the open reception Friday night was documented on film by USU, says Howell.
