SAN JOSE, Calif. — Jeremy Roenick scored the winner in the fifth round of the shootout, and Evgeni Nabokov stopped four of Chicago's five attempts to seal the San Jose Sharks' 10th consecutive win over the Blackhawks, 3-2 Saturday.
Nabokov made 19 saves in regulation for the Sharks, who earned their fourth victory in five games with regulation goals from Jonathan Cheechoo and Marc-Edouard Vlasic.
Nikolai Khabibulin, who's winless in 10 straight appearances since Dec. 26, made 37 regulation saves, but couldn't prevent Roenick from lifting a shot over his pads in the fifth round. Nabokov then stopped Cameron Barker to win San Jose's opener in a six-game homestand.
Duncan Keith tied it for Chicago early in the third period, moments after Vlasic put the Sharks ahead with his first goal of the season. Patrick Sharp also scored for the Blackhawks, who are winless in four straight.
CANADIENS 4, ISLANDERS 1: At Montreal, Alex Kovalev had a goal and an assist, and Montreal scored three times in the second period. Mark Streit scored a power-play goal 7:32 into the middle period to give Montreal a 2-1 lead. Kovalev, who assisted on Tomas Plekanec's short-handed goal 37 seconds into the second, gave the Canadiens their third goal of the period with his team-leading 23rd at 12:35.
DEVILS 6, KINGS 3: At Newark, N.J., light-scoring defenseman Colin White had a goal and an assist to help New Jersey end a three-game losing streak. David Clarkson, Patrik Elias, Karel Rachunek, Travis Zajac and Sergei Brylin also scored as the Devils got goals from six players while Martin Brodeur made 23 saves.
RED WINGS 3, BRUINS 1: At Boston, Pavel Datsyuk scored the tiebreaking goal early in the third period, Chris Osgood made 22 saves and Detroit won its seventh straight. The Red Wings have won seven or more games for the third time this season.
THRASHERS 2, CAPITALS 0: At Washington, Kari Lehtonen had 36 saves in his third shutout of the season, and Atlanta won despite playing without leading scorer Ilya Kovalchuk and mustering only 13 shots on goal.
WILD 4, BLUE JACKETS 1: At Columbus, Ohio, Marian Gaborik scored twice and Brian Rolston scored a goal in his fifth straight game to lead Minnesota. The Wild pulled away from a 1-1 tie with three second-period goals in less than 6 minutes.
FLYERS 3, DUCKS 0: At Philadelphia, Mike Knuble scored three straight goals, Martin Biron made 27 saves for his third shutout and Philadelphia improved to 13-3-1 since it was in last place on Christmas. Knuble had his first hat trick in 707 career games.
MAPLE LEAFS 4, SENATORS 2: At Toronto, Carlo Colaiacovo and Jason Blake scored third-period goals and the Toronto didn't commit any penalties.
PANTHERS 3, LIGHTNING 2: At Tampa, Fla., Richard Zednik scored the go-ahead goal with 1:05 left in the third and Tomas Vokoun made 44 saves to lead Florida.
PENGUINS 3, HURRICANES 1: At Pittsburgh, Evgeni Malkin scored a goal and set up two others during Pittsburgh's offensive breakout in the third period, and the Penguins took advantage of another strong game by goaltender Ty Conklin.
PREDATORS 3, COYOTES 2 (OT): At Nashville, Tenn., Alexander Radulov scored at 4:10 of overtime to lift Nashville. Radek Bonk fired a slap shot from above the right faceoff circle that was stopped by Phoenix goalie Ilya Bryzgalov.
AVALANCHE 6, BLUES 4: At St. Louis, rookie T.J. Hensick and Ben Guite scored two goals each, leading short-handed Colorado past St. Louis.
Jaroslav Hlinka and Tyler Arnason also scored for the Avalanche, who were missing stars Joe Sakic, Paul Stastny and Ryan Smyth because of injuries. Wojtek Wolski added a pair of assists.
STARS 2, FLAMES 1: At Calgary, Alberta, Niklas Hagman scored early in the third period to lead the Dallas Stars.
