The past couple of years has been eventful for the women of SHeDAISY.
Kristyn, Kelsi and Kassidy Osborn, who split their time between their Utah and Nashville homes, have seen new additions to their family as well as having their younger sister Karli join the group for a couple of years.
"When Kelsi had her twins in 2006, Karli took her place doing shows for a year," said Kassidy Osborn during a phone call from Nashville, Tenn. "It was a baptism by fire for her, I'm sure. But she did great.
"But when Kelsi returned, we weren't finished with Karli because Kristyn took a year off. So Karli took her place, too. It's been an eventful two years."
Anyway, the three original SHeDAISY members are finally back together and working on a new album that will, hopefully, be released sometime this year, Kassidy Osborn said.
"We're blessed and lucky to be able to have this chance to do another album," she said. "We're making demos of the songs Kristyn wrote and working with some producers who we think will be great on the new album."
Meanwhile, SHeDAISY's record label, Lyric Street Records, released "The Best of SHeDAISY" earlier this week. The 12 tracks on the album are a comprehensive collection of the trio's decade-long career.
"Our label heads called us up and asked us what we thought about releasing a greatest hits CD," said Osborn. "We thought it was a great idea. We decided, however, that we'd release it as a 'Best of' collection and not include a couple of new songs like what happens on a lot of these types of albums.
"The reason why we didn't include new songs was because we were getting ready to work on the new album," she said. "It would have been silly to do that."
Still, choosing the songs for "The Best of SHeDAISY" was easy, Osborn said. "We just went down the list and chose the songs."
The track listing is in chronological order, starting with the group's first hit, "Little-Good-byes," and ending with "God Bless the American Housewife," an ode to the hit TV show "Desperate Housewives."
In fact, the only single left off the disc (other than two Christmas tracks that hit the charts in 2000) is "Still Holding Out for You."
"There was no debate on which songs to include on the album," Osborn said. "It was pretty cut and dry. And we didn't feel like we needed to include 'Still Holding Out of You.' But the songs we did include show what we're about.
"It was like a walk down memory lane," said Osborn. "And some of it was a little difficult. The saying goes, 'The song remembers when ... ' and I totally believe that. When we were listening to the tracks, I could remember all the things that went on in our lives — good and bad — when we were recording the songs.
"It's different when we're playing the songs live in the moment," she said. "Because we're playing the song in the present and getting the audience reaction. But hearing the songs as we did them nine years ago just sparks all those memories."
The only song on the album that older sis Kristyn didn't write was the aforementioned "God Bless the American Housewife."
"We were approached to do this song," Osborn said. "We usually don't record non-Kristyn tracks. But we love the show and love the song and its writer, Jann Arden. So, we decided to do it, and make a neat little video."
