Paul David Merrihew

Valiant Servant

Paul David Merrihew passed away in his home on Easter Morning, March 23, 2008, from complications from the flu. Paul was born Jan. 20, 1963 to John and Darleen Merrihew. He faithfully served an LDS mission to Lansing, Michigan. He married the love of his life, Mitzy, in 1993 in the Jordan River Temple. Together they had one daughter, Jennifer Ann, whom Paul adored with all of his heart. Paul was raised on a farm and was the proud son of 'The

Farmer'. He was a very hard worker and could always be counted on. His nickname through high school was

'Rooster Dave' for his love of chickens. He was on the high school wrestling team and loved his sport, often practicing on his little sister and nephews. Paul loved to grow anything from prize winning Gladiolas to chickens. He loved flowers and his gardens were lovingly cared for, as was his family. Paul had a way of making everyone around him smile. His eternal youth was contagious. We all felt so blessed to have had Paul in our lives. Paul's life was always centered around service. He would do anything for anyone who needed him. He would give whatever he had to anyone in need, and if something was stolen from him, his response would be that they must have really needed it, more than he did, and he was glad that they had it now. Paul was always the special one in our family. His brother and sisters adored him and his love for us was evident every day. He was everything to everyone. He was his mother's little boy and his wife and daughter's protector and supporter.

Paul worked as a material handler at Frito Lay, Inc. for 13 years, where he received many awards for his outstanding and valued service. His most recent award was for never missing a day of work. He was the Cub Scout Committee Chairman in his ward, and he loved working with and serving those boys.

Paul loved his family. He was a wonderful uncle and took the time to know and love every one of his 28 nieces and nephews. He brought them strawberries on their birthdays and took them fishing and to the mall. He would hang out with them just for fun. Paul was never too busy to lend a helping hand or a kind word. His phone calls, just to see

'what's new' will be missed. As will his never failing 'happy birthday' calls. Paul loved his wife's family as well, and they cherished and loved Paul with all their hearts. Paul loved the Lord and sought to serve him

every day.

Paul was deeply intertwined in our lives and to have him pulled away so suddenly is a pain that we can hardly endure. Paul, we love more than you could know. We will miss you every day. The only thing getting us through this is knowing the joy on the other side as you got to hug your

little sister, Jenny, big sister, Jorgett, Dad, GaGa and everyone else who went before you. How happy they must be to have you with them now. How sad we are to let you go.
