Palmyra Bean Packer
1915 ~ 2008
Palmyra Bean Packer passed away at her home Monday, June 9, 2008. She was born August 15, 1915 in Palmyra, New York in the parlor of the Joseph Smith home. Her parents, Willard Washington Bean and Rebecca Peterson Bean had been called as missionaries and caretakers of the newly acquired Smith farm, serving there for over 24 years.
Palmyra's childhood was filled with the Sacred Grove, gathering spring violets of purple, red and white while loving the stories of Joseph Smith and the Restoration. From her early childhood she was a constant little guide to visitors coming to visit this sacred place.
Palmyra served a mission to the Eastern States, where she first met her future husband, Thane J. Packer, also serving as a missionary, and later married in the Salt Lake Temple. Palmyra and Thane loved each other happily throughout their lives having lived in San Pablo, California, Logan, Utah and Provo, Utah. She served faithfully in the Church in many callings and with her husband filled an Aaronic Priesthood/Scout
ing mission in New Zealand.
All of her posterity call her blessed and perhaps her husband said it best when referring to her magnificence, "Could it be that all men are as blessed as I? Grant that in Thy mysterious way, oh Lord, this Queen of mine shall know how blessed my palace is because by me she kneels."
She is survived by her four children: Thane Garron Packer (Claudia) of Layton; Pamela Smith (Emery) of Holladay, Rand Hugh Packer (Shirlee) of Provo, and Patricia Keith (Lon) of Provo, 30 grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2008 at the LDS Chapel at 650 East Stadium Avenue, Provo. Friends may call from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. at the chapel prior to the services. Interment will be at Provo City Cemetery.
