Golden Boyd Gibb
9/9/1924 ~ 6/29/2008
BOUNTIFUL: Golden Boyd Gibb, age 83, passed away on 29 June 2008 due to chronic renal failure.
Boyd was born on 9 September 1924 to George and Ellen Allred Gibb in Cardson, Alberta, Canada. He was raised on a farm in Hillspring, Alberta, Canada and attended High School in Cardston where he excelled in baseball, basketball and track. He was proud of the Provincial record in the high jump which he held for several years. At age 17 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force where he trained as a bomber pilot. While home on leave he met and fell in love with his beloved Hazel Redd. They were married in the Cardston Temple after the end of World War II, on 12 September 1945.
Boyd and Hazel moved to Utah in 1952. He worked in the trucking business, tire sales, and as a regional manager for Beeline and Frontier Oil Companies which later became Husky Oil Company. He was a marketing executive for Western Oil Marketing and Eaton Metal Products. He retired in 1988.
Boyd's best friend and partner, Hazel died of cancer in 1990. Together they have one son and seven beautiful daughters, 38 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren. He considers this his greatest and most important accomplishment.
Boyd was greatly blessed a second time to find love with Johan Beutel Honey. They were married on 14 February 1991 and were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Johan brought to their union another three boys and four girls and 28 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Boyd loved them all as his own.
Boyd was a lifelong faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served with humility and distinction in many callings including Bishop's Counselor, High Priest Group Leader, High Counselor and long time temple worker in the Salt Lake and Bountiful Temples. Boyd and Johan served a mission together in the North Carolina Raleigh Mission from February 2000 to August 2001. They touched many lives for good.
Boyd is survived by his wife, Johan, his children; Randal (Diane) Gibb; Teddy (Bryan) Colton; Christine
(David) Bradford; Dianne (Brent) Russon; Sherry (Scott) Russon; Denise (Russell) McNeill; Leslie (Ron) Burt; and Kim (Joseph) Tibbitts; Johan's children, Randall (Denise) Honey; Teresa (Marty) Tippetts; Diane (Craig) Jones; Ron (Trudy) Honey; Linda (Grant) Horsley; Shane (April) Honey; Lisa (Ryan) Tippetts; his brother, Lawrence (Hazel) Gibb; his sister Fay (Stan) Johnson and his numerous posterity. Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and sisters and his wife, Hazel.
Boyd loved life and enjoyed hunting, boating, traveling and helping on the farm. His greatest joy was being with his family. He truly exemplified Psalm 127:3-5: "Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them."
