It just might be the ideal New York City snap shot — you, in Times Square, with yellow cabs whizzing behind you.

But you'd better hurry. Mayor Michael Bloomberg wants to close part of the famous crossroads to traffic, making it more pedestrian and biker friendly.

Starting with a trial run as early as May, the plan is to close Broadway between 42nd Street and 47th Street.

That would allow for more planters, and outdoor seating — for some of the best people-watching on the planet.

As someone who once got hit by a bus while waiting in line for Broadway tickets, I'm all for the change!

In other news: For perhaps the first time in my life, I actually saw the Oscar winner for Best Picture the day it won the award. I really liked "Slumdog Millionaire."

If you've seen it you'll know why this next bit of news makes me squirm just a bit: They want to … what else? Turn it into a musical! Ummm. … I just don't see how some of those scenes are going to transfer, do you?

There is no word yet on when it will happen, but the creators are hoping to get A.R. Rahman ("Bombay Dreams") to do the music.

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of fateful trip.

Gilligan, the Skipper, too, the millionaire and his wife, the movie star, the Professor and Mary Ann seem to be back on the island — and this time they're signing about it.

Yes, "Gilligan's Island the Musical" is on tour and the production will be in Idaho Falls on March 24.

I secretly have hope for this one. With songs like, "It's Good to Be Rich," "Little Buddy" and "The Professor's Lament," how can you go wrong? Here's a line from the Prof's song:

What good is education,

If it doesn't end our isolation?

I've studied every culture from ancient Greece to Thailand,

Why can't I get seven people off an island?

Good question!

Flash forward to November. The movie musical version of "Nine," by Maury Yeston and Arthur Kopit, will hit theaters. And, the cast is loaded: Sophia Loren, Judi Dench, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, and even pop-star Fergie.

Oh yeah, and Daniel Day Lewis.

Flash forward 2010: My comic book friends are buzzin' about this one — "Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark," has officially been announced.

We talked about this back when it was just an idea, but now, Spidey will get his Broadway bow February, 2010.

Billed as the "most expensive musical ever," casting has not been announced. But the creative team has, and it includes Bono of the mega-hit band, U2 and Julie Taymor, the brains behind "The Lion King." Look out!
