WEST JORDAN — An employee at a food distribution center died Friday after getting pinned between a semitrailer and a loading dock.

The 28-year-old man arrived at Capital Trading Company, 1333 W. 7900 South, sometime between 6 and 6:30 a.m. The man showed up to work before other employees arrived and tried to climb between a large truck and the loading dock, said West Jordan Police Sgt. Dan Roberts.

Somehow, the man became wedged between the dock and the truck.

"We don't know if the truck shifted or he slipped and became wedged," Roberts said.

The worker couldn't get out, but was able to grab his cell phone and called other employees for help. They, in turn, called police. A forklift was used to move the truck and free the worker.

The man, whose name was not released, was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in serious condition and died later in surgery, Roberts said. Investigators believe the man died of internal injuries because he had no obvious external injuries.

Capital Trading is a distribution center for Chinese food.
