According to Signonsandiego.com, one of the three replay staffers suspended for a botched call in Saturday's BYU game was an employee of the college.
According to the story, a Mountain West Conference spokesman didn't have policy information about a university employees being allowed to work for the league in the replay booth of a game involving their teams.
The employee was BYU video coordinator Chad Bunn who served as the technical advisor for the MWC in the booth.
The article quotes San Diego State head coach Brady Hoke as saying, "I wouldn't think that would be appropriate."
The Deseret News reported the suspension Wednesday.
Replay officials ruled that a fumble by BYU's JJ Di Luigi in the third quarter happened after his knee touched the ground. But a TV replay showed that the ball popped loose before Di Luigi's knee hit the ground.
Hoke asked for the play to be reviewed. It was by those in the replay booth, but the ruling on the field stood.
"I don't know where they fell short," Hoke told the San Diego Union-Tribune. "They were given the (TV) feed. I don't know if the technical official gave the feed to the replay official. I don't know how it all works in the box. I just know the feed was available to them and they didn't use it." The Cougars continued their drive and ended up scoring to take a 24-14 advantage with just under 14 minutes remaining in the game. BYU went on to win, 24-21.
