OMAHA, Neb. — The mayor of Nebraska's largest city contends the recall vote he faces Tuesday is about undoing the legitimate results of an election.

But his opponents say it's about tax hikes and other out-of-touch policies.

Jim Suttle faces Omaha's first recall election for a mayor since 1987, when the then-mayor was kicked out for different reasons. Suttle says it's as though a fifth quarter is being added to a football game he won fair and square.

Many of those funding the recall backed his opponent in the 2009 mayoral race. Organizers of the recall effort accuse Suttle of supporting excessive taxes, breaking his promises and pushing for changes that threaten the city's economic future.

Besides raising property taxes and enacting a fee on restaurant tabs, Suttle upped an annual vehicle tax.
