KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs are in the hands of a journeyman quarterback who was once cut by a UFL team called the California Redwoods.
Tyler Palko will get his first NFL start on Monday night at New England after Matt Cassel sustained a significant injury to his throwing hand late in a 17-10 loss to Denver.
Chiefs coach Todd Haley said Monday that Cassel will likely require surgery and could miss the rest of the season, and that Palko is next in line.

He has spent time with New Orleans, Arizona and Pittsburgh before finally getting his shot with the Chiefs. He's played in only four games and attempted 13 passes, six of which came on Kansas City's final series Sunday against Denver.
