CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski has shown he's not afraid to dig deep in his playbook, even if it means borrowing a trick play from a kids' movie.
With Cam Newton under center, Chudzinski is finding new ways to use the talented rookie's athleticism to his advantage. The latest move was borrowing a hidden-ball trick called "the annexation of Puerto Rico" from the movie The Little Giants to help the Panthers beat the Texans 28-13.
It's not the first time Chudzinski has ventured into a gadget play to ignite the offense — and probably won't be the last. Two weeks before he used a throwback pass from receiver Legedu Naanee to Newton that resulted in a big gain and nearly another touchdown.
The Panthers host Tampa Bay on Saturday.
