I am writing in support of Scott Crump, the outstanding teacher at Bingham High School. I had several classes from Mr. Crump during my high school years, including the AP Political Science class that has recently attracted allegations of racism.
During my year in the class, I was chosen as the student that would act as the "dictator." There were no elements of racism or bigotry in the curriculum, but rather Mr. Crump masterfully uses the experience as a powerful teaching tool. The exercise of that week gave me a greater understanding of history and dictatorial systems than years of reading textbooks ever could.
Mr. Crump is an exceptional educator that inspires his students to do great things and to accept their duty to be civically educated. I am disappointed in the parent that made unfounded allegations, Jeanetta Williams of the NAACP and the Deseret News for making a news story out of nothing and that has unnecessarily attacked one of our state's greatest teachers.
