Mack Chrysler1928 ~ 2012Mack Chrysler peacefully passed away at his home in Salt Lake City surrounded by loved ones Sunday, June 17, 2012 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was 83. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sylvia Miller Chrysler, his four children and their spouses; Shannon Chrysler, Christopher and Kristine Chrysler, Tamara and Bryan Montague, Kent Chrysler and Deborah Cooke. He also adored his five grandchildren Chelsie Greenfield, Casidi Chrysler, Zane Montague, Kayden Chrysler, Austin Montague and his dogs Ruff and Sam. Born June 30, 1928, in Chatham, Ontario, Canada. Mack graduated from University of Western Ontario. His life was an adventure and he began a long and distinguished career as a foreign news correspondent. His quick wit and dry humor made for good reading in the hundreds of news articles he penned, covering a wide variety of topics. After rising to his dream job as Bureau Chief covering Japan and the Far East, he "retired" after 30 years with U.S. News & World Report. As he was never a man who could sit still for long, he went freelance, reporting on primarily Asian automotive markets. His constant quest for knowledge kept him well occupied and he traveled the world, sometimes with family in tow; he left his mark on all that knew him. Once settled in Utah, Mack began donating his extraordinary woodworking skills and time to the Tiny Tim Toy Factory, a charitable organization devoted to supplying a wooden toy car to any child in the world that needs one. "We take some wood that would be wasted, mix it with some time that would be wasted, and make a toy to stimulate a mind so that it won't be wasted" reads a caption from one of his books "The Happy Factory". Mack touched more lives than he realized, and he will be missed dearly. A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, June 21st at the LDS Church: 579 East 18th Avenue, Salt Lake City at 7:00 p.m., casual dress. Contributions in his name can be made to "Tiny Tim Toy Factory" 1423 West 8120 South, West Jordan, Utah, 84088.
