SALT LAKE CITY — City Creek Center is kicking off the holiday season with the arrival of Santa Claus on Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. Elves will lead families in a sing-along until Santa appears on the rooftops to greet families in Regent Court before settling into his Lantern Cottage for the season.

The event is free and open to the public.

Santa’s arrival marks the beginning of the downtown holiday season, along with City Creek Center’s 750,000 lights and décor, choreographed holiday fountain and fire shows, and animated storybook lanterns along the creek. The shopping center will debut a new storybook lantern with a Zoetrope animation of Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer.

Also on Nov. 20 at 6 p.m., Macy’s at City Creek Center will unveil its holiday candy windows on the South Main Street entrance. Six local artists have been chosen to design window displays that will be made entirely out of candy.

“Holiday shopping at City Creek Center has become a tradition for many Utah families, and it’s a pleasure to welcome all people to enjoy the festive shopping and dining atmosphere that we create for our guests,” said Linda Wardell, City Creek Center general manager.

This year, City Creek has created a “virtual line” for which families can check in at Santa’s cottage, and his elves will text them when Santa is ready — allowing families to shop and dine without the hassle of waiting in line.
