It's been a rough season for the Oakland Raiders, but Utah alumnus Keith McGill is making the most of his opportunity for the future.
The rookie cornerback, given his chance to shine the past couple of weeks because of injuries to three other Oakland defensive backs, picked up his first career NFL touchdown on Sunday in the first quarter of Oakland's loss to the Denver Broncos.
The former Ute scooped up a deflected Peyton Manning backwards screen pass and took it 18 yards to the house, cutting Denver's lead to 10-7 at the time.
McGill also collected a career-high five tackles in his start Sunday — more than doubling his four career tackles heading into the game. However, the Broncos wound up winning with ease, 47-14.
McGill, a fourth-round pick by the Raiders in the 2014 draft, talked about his opportunity heading into Sunday's game.
"It's always going to be nice to get game reps and you just have to build off of whatever kind of foundation you have," McGill told Associated Press writer Josh Dubow on Friday. "Mine is kind of late in the season, but those last two games, they're going to be important and I just have to go in there and try to do my job as best as possible."
