Oregon State University officials announced Sunday the hiring of Kevin McGiven as its new quarterbacks coach. McGiven has spent the past two seasons at Utah State as the team’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, while also serving as the team’s assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach in 2009.
Following the 2014 season, McGiven was named the FootballScoop’s Quarterbacks Coach of the Year as the Aggies lost three different starting quarterbacks (Chuckie Keeton, Darell Garretson and Craig Harrison) to season-ending injuries and started true freshman Kent Myers the last six games of the season.
Myers ended the season by being named the Offensive Most Valuable Player of the Gildan New Mexico Bowl as he rushed a career-high 15 times for 70 yards, including a 48-yard touchdown, while also completing 5-of-12 passes for 68 yards with one interception.
In the end, four different quarterbacks piloted the Aggies to a 10-4 record while combining to complete 243-of-389 passes (62.5 percent) for 2,782 yards with 20 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, while rushing 103 times for 449 yards and eight touchdowns.
