PANGUITCH, Garfield County — A woman accused of threatening a Garfield County sheriff's deputy more than once with a pair of scissors has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge.

Stacy Clark, 45, was initially charged in 6th District Court with attempted aggravated murder, a first-degree felony; two counts of assault by a prisoner, a third-degree felony, and two counts of assault on a health care provider, a class A misdemeanor.

Court records show Clark pleaded guilty earlier this month to assault on a police officer, a second-degree felony. All other charges were dismissed.

On Aug. 5, deputies responded to the Bryce Canyon Motel where Clark was threatening to harm herself, according to court records. She was armed with scissors and was bleeding from cuts on both wrists, deputies said.

Clark was actively cutting herself when two deputies entered the "house part" of the motel. Clark allegedly raised the scissors toward one of the men and told the deputies to get out. A Taser was used to try to subdue Clark, but the weapon was ineffective.

Deputies said Clark was still holding the scissors when she picked up a piece of splintered wood with her free hand and charged, making verbal threats to kill them.

One of the deputies pointed his gun at Clark, causing her to back away. That allowed the second deputy to get close enough to the woman to grab her, pin her against a wall and arrest her, a police report states.

Clark is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 5. She faces up to 15 years in prison.
