Two films with local ties won awards at the International Family Film Festival in Hollywood earlier this month.

“The Cokeville Miracle,” directed by T.C. Christensen, was first in the Best Feature Drama in the Feature Film portion. The movie is based on a 1986 true story of a couple who took an elementary school hostage, and it includes students and teachers and the ensuing incredible events.

“My Dog,” by Cedar Breaks, a Utah band, and Empath Media took first in the Best Musical category in the short film portion of the festival. The song is about a family’s relationship with their dog.

The festival recognized winners in 36 categories and screened more than 100 films from 17 countries, according to a news release.

The International Family Film Festival "celebrates the belief that family stories are more powerful, insightful and entertaining than ever” and “champions the spirit and talents of indie, studio and international inspired productions,” according to a news release.
