Add one more BYU connection to Bronco Mendenhall's new staff headed to Virginia.

Former BYU linebacker and graduate assistant Shane Hunter will join Mendenhall as Virginia's new defensive line coach, Virginia announced Monday.

He replaces Navy defensive line coach Shaun Nua, who had accepted the job on Dec. 15, but backed out of the job on Friday to stay at Navy.

"Shane is a rising star in the profession. He knows me and our defensive system inside and out. Shane is an energetic and passionate coach who develops great relationships with the players. He’s a great addition to the staff," Mendenhall said, in a news release.

Hunter compiled 100 tackles in two years with the Cougars, including 85 tackles during his senior season in 2010. After spending time coaching at Snow College after graduating from BYU, he joined BYU as a graduate assistant in 2013 and has had that role since.
