As children, we look up to them as our heroes, and many recognize the service they provide to our communities. But in recent months, reaction to officer-involved shootings has turned some public reaction against officers. And in some instances put officers' lives in danger. Protesters and critics of police have been heard. Now it's time to give voice to police who know no call, no stop, is routine. A split second, a few feet, could stand between life and death every day.

Every time an officer responds to a call, a weapon is always at the scene. It's the officer's weapon, and at any moment it could be used against the officer. Watch this video to see why it doesn’t take much time for an attacker to reach an officer before that officer can reach for his or her gun.
