With his resignation as the CEO of the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies on Monday, Greg Miller ends nearly seven years at the helm of the business his father built.
Those seven years featured their fair share of change for the Utah Jazz. Here are a few of the most notable.
July 16, 2008 — Greg Miller is named the new CEO of Larry H. Miller Group of Companies. His father, Larry H. Miller, was still expected to play a major role in the operations of the Jazz
Feb. 20, 2009 — Longtime Jazz owner Larry H. Miller dies of complications from diabetes.
June 24, 2010 — The Jazz draft Butler swingman Gordon Hayward.
Feb. 10, 2011 — Jazz head coach Jerry Sloan resigns after 23 years at the helm of the Utah franchise. Assistant coach Tyrone Corbin is named head coach of the Jazz.
"I'd like to start by making it clear that nobody pushed Jerry or Phil out," Miller said. "No players pushed him out. Kevin didn't push him out. An aspiring head coach didn't push him out, and I certainly didn't push him out."
Feb. 23, 2011 — Miller signs off on the trade that sends All-Star point guard Deron Williams to the Nets. The Jazz receive Derrick Favors, Devin Harris and two first-round picks back in the deal.
Feb. 3, 2012 — Miller responds to Jazz legend Karl Malone’s complaints about how Utah handled the Williams-Sloan dispute, as well as Malone’s claims he reached out to the organization for game tickets but had to resort to buying them from a scalper, by writing a personal blog post.
"The fact is Karl is still as high-maintenance as he ever was, but now he has nothing to offer to offset the grief and aggravation that comes with him," Miller wrote. The blog post has since been taken down.
May 29, 2013 — Miller and Malone announce that Malone will serve as a part-time big man coach for Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter.
June 27, 2013 — The Jazz trade the 14th and 21st picks to Minnesota for the ninth pick and land Michigan guard Trey Burke. Later the Jazz traded the No. 46 pick and cash for the rights to Rudy Gobert, who was taken No. 27.
“We were really excited when the Millers OK'd the cash,’’ Jazz general manager Dennis Lindsey said. “I can't comment (on how much cash). But it was a significant amount.’’
Feb. 28, 2014 — Miller appears on an episode of CBS's "Undercover Boss."
“I made a lot of friends. I learned several ways that we can make the organization better, and I was able to enrich lives — specifically the lives of the employees that I worked with on the show,” he said about the appearance.
April 22, 2014 — Jazz decline Corbin’s option and start the search for a new coach. “(Corbin) has always represented the Jazz franchise in a first-class manner both on the court and in the community,” Miller said in a statement. “He did a wonderful job of building relationships with the players and encouraged their growth throughout the season."
June 6, 2014 — Jazz hire Quin Snyder to be the head coach of the team. "He has an impressive basketball pedigree, including more than a decade of head coaching experience that positions him well to succeed in the Jazz organization," Miller said about the new coach. "We look forward to Quin’s contributions both on the court and in the community."
June 26, 2014 — The Jazz draft Dante Exum and Rodney Hood in the first round of the NBA draft.
Feb. 19, 2015 — Enes Kanter is traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder, opening up more playing time for Gobert.
March 16, 2015 — Greg Miller resigns as CEO of the Larry H. Miller Group.
