"THE CONTINUOUS ATONEMENT FOR TEENS," by Brad Wilcox, Deseret Book, $14.99, 165 pages (nf)

In 2013, author Brad Wilcox published "The Continuous Atonement," a book that provides insights and teaches principles about God, Jesus Christ and the enabling power of the Atonement.

Now Wilcox has come out with an adaptation targeting a younger audience, "The Continuous Atonement for Teens."

This shorter teen version comes in paperback with thought-provoking questions in the subheadings of each of the nine chapters, new stories relevant to teenagers, along with an invitation to share what they've learned.

Like in "The Continuous Atonement," Wilcox takes a new approach to clarifying what the Atonement really is while correcting misperceptions. The Atonement leads to learning, Wilcox wrote in the book.

"Because of the Atonement we can be taught by experience," Wilcox writes. "The Atonement allows us to live and learn, but also to learn and live."

The chapters address questions such as, "Who Needs a Savior?"; "What Does it Mean to Be Redeemed?"; and "Who Made God the Enemy?" As young people read the book, Wilcox hopes they will better understand how to apply the Atonement in their lives.

Wilcox also shares tips and suggestions about how to share what the reader has learned with friends and family, whether in a formal or informal setting. Good teaching is all about connecting with those you teach, responding to their needs and making a positive difference in their lives, Wilcox wrote.

"Never forget why you are teaching — to have an impact!" Wilcox wrote.

Wilcox is a professor of teacher education at Brigham Young University and has authored several books. He has been involved with Especially for Youth and served as a missionary and mission president in Santiago, Chile.
