This summer, Vocal Point, an a cappella group from Brigham Young University, will perform at Disneyland during the park's 60th anniversary Diamond Celebration.
As the group members put on performances for Disneyland patrons, staffers and local members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, they hope to uplift and inspire many through their music.
"Vocal Point's mission statement is 'to enlighten the hearts and minds of those within the sound of our voice unto the filling of their souls with joy,’" Vocal Point member Jordan Hale told the Deseret News. "Not only is (Disneyland) a fun place to be, but it lines up with the goals of Vocal Point better than almost anywhere. We are constantly trying to uplift and inspire with our music, and what better place to do that."
Vocal Point will perform on the Hollywood Backlot Stage at Disney California Adventure Park on July 8 at 12:45 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. and on July 13 at noon and 1 p.m. The group will perform for Disney staffers throughout the week and hold a devotional on July 12 in Corona, California, at the LDS Circle City Ward building.
This isn't the first appearance at Disneyland for the a cappella group, which made its national TV appearance in 2011 while competing on NBC's "The Sing-Off." In March, while performing in California with The All-American Boys Chorus, Vocal Point was invited to perform at Disneyland for patrons and the leadership of California Adventure Park. A few months later, Disneyland invited the group to participate in its 60th anniversary celebration.
"Our experience in the spring at Disneyland was unforgettable," said McKay Crockett, Vocal Point director. "The missions of Vocal Point and Disney mesh so well that it seemed as if two best friends were finally getting the chance to meet each other. I couldn't be more excited that these two organizations are cultivating a working relationship."
Although Vocal Point hasn't finalized its song selections, Hale said the group plans to perform covers of Disney favorites as well as other radio hits.
"I think I can speak for all the members of Vocal Point when I say that I'm excited to work with one of the oldest and most renowned entertainment businesses in the world," Hale said. "It's a dream come true."
