The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released a statement Monday following the Boy Scouts of America's decision to lift the ban on gay adult leaders.
“As a chartering organization, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has always had the right to select Scout leaders who adhere to moral and religious principles that are consistent with our doctrines and beliefs," the LDS Church stated on MormonNewsroom.org. "Any resolution adopted by the Boy Scouts of America regarding leadership in Scouting must continue to affirm that right.”
The resolution, which was unanimously approved by the executive committee of the BSA, will become official policy if ratified by the National Executive Board on July 27. The resolution dictates that while gay leaders will not be banned, individual scout units will be allowed to set their own policy, according to the Associated Press.
