The Salt Lake City Fire Department, Honor Guard, and Utah Firefighters Emerald Society gather to honor Asa Hall Hancock, in Salt Lake City, Monday, July 13, 2015. Hancock, who died on July 13, 1920, was the first Utah firefighter to die in the line of duty. He was responding to an emergency call when the engine he was riding on hit a street car at 300 South and 200 West. He was thrown from the engine and collided with the street car. Since Hancock's passing, the Salt Lake City Fire Department has lost 14 firefighters in the line of duty.
