Beehive Startups brings its podcast about Utah’s business and tech culture to DeseretNews.com.

The Beehive Startups podcast, segments of which will air on KSL Radio on Sunday during the “Silicon Slopes Hour,” will tell stories of local Utah businesses and entrepreneurs in the valley.

This week’s podcast, which you can listen to by clicking here, features Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox.

Clint Betts, the founder and CEO of Beehive Startups, and Cox spoke about how Utahns should feel about the 2016 election results. Cox said Utahns should do their best to embrace the changes that will come.

Cox went on to say that Trump understood how upset Americans feel about the loss of jobs across the country. Cox said the United States has been built on the backs of coal workers and blue-collar workers in general. He said Trump understood the frustration of those workers.

“We have to rethink how we do things. Hopefully this will give us an opportunity to do that.”

Cox said this can apply to Utahns, too. He said there are thousands of jobs going unfilled in Utah because people in the state don't have the education to fill them. With all the attention on Provo and Lehi, the hub of Silicon Slopes, Cox said it's important for new businesses to move to cities like Roosevelt, where there aren't big businesses.

"We just need to change our mindset a little bit and work together," Cox said.

Betts said the podcast will tell true stories of Utah’s business leaders and workers. Beehive Startups often reports on the Silicon Slopes and local Utah businesses from throughout the valley.

“I think we’re uniquely positioned to tell the stories of the Utah entrepreneur,” he said. “That's going to be our aim is to tell the stories of entrepreneurs, to tell the stories of happening in Silicon Slopes, to tell the stories of the tech community and to tell the stories of how the tech community is interacting with the broader community and interacting with government.”

Betts said the Utah tech community has “exploded” to a point where it needs to be covered and talked about by all Utahns.

“Someone needs to be telling these stories,” he said.

Betts said all the podcasts shared in the Deseret News will feature original material. Previous Beehive Startups podcasts included guests such as Gov. Gary Herbert, AOL founder Steve Case and Domo CEO Josh James. The podcast even talked to Evan McMullin, an independent presidential candidate in the 2016 election.

Betts said he hopes the podcast will bring a taste of Utah business culture to the mainstream. Betts also said the show will focus on the pros and cons of starting a business in Utah.

“These are stories about entrepreneurs," he said. "It’s not stories about cloud computing or how to build a SAAS company. I think it’s a pretty broad topic. We’re talking about what it takes to build a company, what does it take to be an entrepreneur, that type of stuff."

He added, “What we’re really talking about is entrepreneurship, and we believe the Silicon Slopes is affecting Utah whether you’re inside or outside of it, and we’re excited to tell those stories."
