Utah delegates to the Republican National Convention tour the Kirtland Temple in Kirtland, Ohio, on Wednesday before attending the third day of the convention in Cleveland. Early members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints settled in the Kirtland area and began construction on the temple in June 1833. It was dedicated by the Prophet Joseph Smith on March 27, 1836. By 1838, most of the Saints had moved away from Kirtland and the temple fell into disrepair, and its ownership was challenged. The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, now known as the Community of Christ, gained title to the building in 1880. Community of Christ restored the site and maintains it today as a historic site with guided tours.
