STRAWBERRY RESERVOIR — A teenager died and his mother was seriously injured after a near head-on crash Sunday on U.S. 40 near Strawberry Reservoir.

The Utah Highway Patrol said Hunter Johnson, 17, died after the vehicle he was riding in crossed the center line and struck another vehicle. The impact of the collision sent the car Johnson was in careening down an embankment.

His mother, Tammy Johnson, 44, of Bountiful, was flown to Intermountain Medical Center with serious injuries. The passenger of the other vehicle, Tess Kooring, 32, of Salt Lake City, also was seriously injured and flown to the University Hospital.

The crash happened at 1:30 p.m. Sunday after Johnson's car crossed the center line and hit the other vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.

Jackson Pope, 35, of Murray, a driver in the vehicle that was hit, suffered a possible broken arm and received treatment at Heber Valley Medical Center.
