PLYMOUTH, Box Elder County — A large wildfire near the Utah-Idaho border has grown to 10,000 acres, according to the Box Elder County fire marshal.
Fire Marshal Cory Barton said Thursday that the Broad Mouth Fire was human-caused, but he didn't have additional details about how it started.
As of Thursday afternoon, the fire had burned a line cabin used by ranchers, a trailer and a vacant mobile home, Barton said. No injuries had been reported.
The fire also is threatening a couple of farmhouses that firefighters are protecting, though the homes were not in imminent danger, he said. Crews are watching them as a precaution in case there's a shift in the wind.
There were no evacuation orders as of Thursday evening.
The fire is burning in a mountainous area. Homes in the area are very isolated and most accessible only by dirt roads, Barton said. Several aircraft and bulldozers were being used to fight the fire, he said.
Barton said strong fire lines "put a good stop on the south end" of the fire Thursday, significantly aiding firefighters. He said the fire was "significantly" more contained by Thursday evening than the 15 percent containment reported in the morning, but he didn't have an exact figure.
The fire was also affecting residents along the Wasatch Front. Smoke from the burning sagebrush and grasses was pushed into the Salt Lake Valley on Thursday morning, creating a thick haze.
