Former BYU and current New England football player Harvey Langi and his wife Cassie are in serious but stable condition in Boston hospitals Saturday following a traffic accident a few yards from their apartment in Foxborough, Massachusetts, Friday night.
“They are hurt but they are alive and that’s a blessing we are grateful for,” said Langi’s father-in-law, Rick Wahlin, who rushed from Provo to Boston to help.
“They were taken to two separate hospitals and we are trying to get both of them at the same facility so they can recover together,” said Wahlin.

Emergency crews had to cut the top of Langi’s car to extract him and his wife after a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed hit the back of Langi’s car, which had stopped to make a left turn into their apartment parking lot on Fisher Street. The collision pushed Langi’s car into two other vehicles that were in front of their vehicle
Langi is being treated for neck and head injuries and his wife Cassie suffered fractures to both hips, broken ribs and is being evaluated for possible internal bleeding and injury to her liver and spleen, according to Wahlin.
Langi signed as a free agent with the world champion New England Patriots this past summer and made the 53-man roster. He is the highest-paid free agent not taken in the 2017 draft. Both sets of parents rushed to Boston after learning of the accident Friday night at approximately 10 p.m.
“Those are the phone calls you do not want as a parent,” said Wahlin. “I can’t say enough about the support those kids have had from their local LDS Church members to be there for them until the Langis and I and my wife could be there, and the Patriots helped us get there as fast as possible. Many tender mercies have come their way the past 12 hours.”
Wahlin said firefighters had to use the “Jaws of Life” to cut into Langi’s vehicle to remove them to emergency vehicles. “They are torn up but very lucky to be alive. All Harvey has cared about is how Cassie is doing, that’s been his biggest concern, and we are grateful for him and all the prayers that have been directed toward our families.”
