SALT LAKE CITY — Jordan Chatman, who transferred from BYU and is a returned Mormon missionary, has become a major contributor for the Boston College basketball team in his junior season.
Chatman recently scored 22 points, including five 3-pointers and four straight free throws in the final seconds, to help lift the Eagles to a 89-84 upset victory over No. 1 Duke, according to the Boston Globe.
“I was just hungry,” Chatman told the Boston Globe. “We had that lead, and we played well in the first half and we didn’t want to let that slip.”
Fans stormed the court after the final buzzer and a Facebook video shows Chatman's father, former BYU basketball great Jeff Chatman, hugging his son. Jeff Chatman said his son declared that he's "going to Disneyland!"
Chatman's 22-point performance was discussed by ESPN broadcasters Mike Couzens and Mark Plansky in a postgame recap, as shown in this ESPN.com video.
Chatman and his fellow guards combined to score 76 points in the win. The trio was interviewed in a press conference by reporters after the game.
Chatman, a native of Vancouver, Washington, served his LDS mission in Taipei, Taiwan. He played his freshman year at BYU before transferring to Boston College in 2016, the Deseret News reported.
The highlight of Chatman's sophomore year came when he scored 30 points and set an Atlantic Coast Conference record with nine consecutive threes in a loss at Virginia Tech.
