The Beehive State was represented in the McDonalds All-American Game for the first time since Shawn Bradley played in 1990 when Murrays Britton Johnsen entered the game. The Parade magazine All-American and Deseret News Mr. Basketball for 1997 didnt score, but the West made a run with him on the floor. The East won 94-81 behind Elton Brands 16 points.
In addition to Bradley, Johnsen joined Skylines Danny Vranes (1977) and Provos Devin Durrant (1978) as the only Utahns named to the team.
