Here's a recap of the four 5A track and field region championship meets held this week.
The highlights include Westlake’s Adara Christensen breaking the girls' pole vaulting overall state record, while several other marquee names on the track this spring had great meets.
Region 1
PLAIN CITY — Weber’s boys and girls dominated the Region 1 championships at Fremont High School on Thursday.
The boys won easily as they tallied 219 points, followed by Fremont in second with 165 points. The girls won by an even more comfortable margin over Sky View, 215 to 137.5.
Heath Hemming won three events (100, 200 and 110 hurdles) to lead Weber to the comfortable victory leading up to next week’s 5A state tournament. Talon Hull was also a double winner for the Warriors as he won the 1,600 and 3,200 meters. Weber thrower Tim Eatchel also won two events (shot put, javelin).
The best performance of the meet on the boys side was turned in by Sky View senior Jaxon Durtshi. He won the 300 hurdles race with a time of 39.09, the third best time in Utah this spring.
On the girls side, Krista Farley was a triple winner for Weber as she won the 100, 200 and long jump.
McKenna Lee was also a double winter in the distance events as she won the 800 and 3,200 meters.

Region 2
KAYSVILLE — As expected, Davis' boys and girls track teams swept the Region 2 championships Thursday on their home track.
Davis’ boys won only two events on the track, but it recorded first-place finishes in the high jump, discus and pole vault to rack up 290.5 team points, well ahead of second-place Syracuse’s 188.
Syracuse’s Hunter Woodhall turned in perhaps the best performance of the meet in the 200 meters, recording a time of 21.52, which ties him for the best mark in Utah this spring.
Woodhall also won the 400 meters, an event for which he holds the state record.
Syracuse’s Tanner Kutterer swept the hurdles events to also finish as a double winner.
Davis’ girls recorded 225.5 points in convincing fashion as it captured the region title ahead of Syracuse, which tallied 170 points.
Aubrey Argyle (800 meters) and Ruby Jane Mathewson (300 hurdles) were the only individual winners for the Darts, which also won the 4x400 and sprint medley relays.
Mathewson won the 300 hurdles in 43.84, the second-best time this spring in Utah.
One of the best races of the meet, especially on the girls side, was the 100 hurdles. Layton’s Katrina Broadhead edged West’s Briana White as they finished with times of 14.75 and 14.81 respectively. Those rank as the fourth- and fifth-best 100 hurdles times in Utah this spring.

Region 3
WEST JORDAN — Bingham’s boys and girls captured their respective region championships in impressive fashion at Copper Hills High School on Thursday.
Bingham’s girls tallied 209.5 points to finish well ahead of host Copper Hills, which finished with 172.5 points.
Whitney Rich was a triple winner for the Miners as she won all three distance events. Rich won all three races in easy fashion and should have plenty in the tank for next week’s state meet to post new PRs. Darcy Allen was a double winner for the region champs as she won the shot put and discus.
Jordan Brandt won four events to lead Brighton to a third-place finish. She on the 200 meters, both hurdles and the long jump.
For the boys, Dylan Tidwell and Dakota Tidwell led the way for Bingham, which recorded 192 team points to pull away from Copper Hills, which had 153.8 points.
Dylan Tidwell won the 800 and 1,600 meters, while Dakota Tidwell swept the hurdles events.

Region 4
RIVERTON — The pole vaulters stole the stage at the Region 4 championships at Riverton High School.
Westlake’s Adara Christensen set a new overall state record on the girls side as she vaulted 11’07. It was good enough to beat the previous state record which Bingham freshman Hannah Stetler set last month at the UVU Invite.
On the boys side, American Fork’s Justin Harmon vaulted 15’08, a new personal best as he went seven inches higher than his previous season high.
Herriman used its depth to capture the boys and girls region titles.
The boys tallied 167.6 points, followed by Lone Peak in second with 132.5 points.
Herriman’s Adam Wood won all three distance events as American Fork and Lehi’s strong contingent of runners rested during the meet to be ready for next week’s state tournament.
Lone Peak’s Dominic Bentil was also a triple winner at the meet, as he won the 100, 200 and 400 meters. His 200 time of 21.73 ranks fifth in Utah this season.
Herriman’s girls recorded 194.5 points en route to the region title, with Lone Peak a distant second (126 points).
Herriman won two of three relays, while its only individual winner was Tori Bailey who won the shot put and discus events.
Emily Ellis was the star of the meet on the girls side as she won the 100, 200 and 400 meters long with the long jump.
Her time of 24.59 in the 200 meters ranks as the second-fastest time in Utah this year.
