SALEM, Utah County — Heavy rains in northern Utah took an especially big toll on Salem, where roughly 100 homes were flooded or otherwise damaged Wednesday afternoon.
The water seeped into basements and onto sidewalks in the town about an hour southeast of Salt Lake City. The southeast side of the town was the hardest hit, said Salem Police Sgt. Greg Smith.
Smith called the flood a hundred-year storm, saying he hadn't seen rain come down that quickly and forcefully there.
The downpour was brief, but cleanup crews were working into the evening to try to remove water from homes.

One injury was reported: A woman was cut by glass when the water broke her window and flooded her basement, Smith said.
