MANTI — A Sanpete County woman charged with having a teenager take a topless picture of her now faces an additional charge of child kidnapping.
Jessica Lee Layton, 28, of Mt. Pleasant, made her initial appearance late last week in 6th District Court on the new first-degree felony charge.
Police have also been investigating Layton for other potential charges related to inappropriate activity with juveniles, according to a search warrant affidavit unsealed over the weekend.
In the latest case, Layton is accused of picking up a 12-year-old boy and his friend without the permission of their parents and driving them to her house, where they watched movies all night, according to charging documents. Police say Layton may have also taken the boys to "a party" before taking them to her house.
Layton already faces charges of dealing in harmful materials to a minor, a third-degree felony; lewdness involving a child, a class A misdemeanor; and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a class B misdemeanor.
In that case, she took a juvenile into the restroom of the Manti City Park "and asked him to take a picture of her breasts so she could send it to a friend" who she was Snapchatting, the charges state.
A status conference for both cases is scheduled July 12. According to court records, Layton's attorney told a judge last week that he "anticipates filing a motion for competency in both cases."
