Utah Jazz president Steve Starks on Wednesday appeared on 1280 The Zone with Scott Garrard and Gordon Monson, where he gave some updates on some of the projects the Jazz have going on.

The primary purpose for Starks’ appearance was to discuss the renovations of Vivint Arena, but he also talked about the future of ticket operations and the jerseys Utah will wear next season.

Arena renovations

The $125 million project has a completion deadline of mid-September, and a picture of a countdown clock in the arena was posted to the Jazz’s Twitter account after Starks’ interview indicating there are just over six weeks left.

“That number is seared into my brain and into the brain the dozen or so people we have leading the project,” Starks said, noting that things are “on track.”

Most of the features of the project have been previously announced, although Starks said a few more will be revealed before renovations are complete. Starks noted that about 300 of the new blue-cushioned seats that will replace the old green ones are being installed each day.

He said the building will undergo testing before a Sept. 27 concert featuring Tim McGraw and Faith Hill to ensure that everything from food to electricity is in order.

The Zions Bank Basketball Center is also undergoing a major transformation and will house the team’s business offices upon completion.

Tickets

Starks said that a new Jazz mobile app will be rolled out in the fall, and numerous new features will be released over time. He talked at length about how the app will become the primary place to purchase tickets by the beginning of the 2018-2019 season.

Starks said the app will also provide users the opportunity to do things such as upgrade seats and make food and merchandise purchases at games.

Jerseys

Nike is now the official jersey provider of the NBA, and it was recently announced that each team will have four jerseys next season. Since then, fans have speculated about what Utah’s new jerseys might look like.

Starks said the first two jerseys will be released soon, noting that Nike did market research in the Beehive State to help inform the team on designs.

“We’re really excited about what is going to be shown to our fans, and our players are excited about what they’ve seen as well,” Starks said.
