Every year, I have the privilege of selecting some of the best photographs the Deseret News photography staff has captured during the previous 12 months. In turn, those photojournalists have the privilege of being your eyes, giving you a spectacular view of the world around us. It’s an honor for them to provide an intimate glimpse into your lives as you invite them into your offices, classrooms and homes.

They take their work seriously, following a strict code of ethics, always striving to show the good in humanity while remembering their responsibility to document the challenges life often throws our way. The trust we’ve established with you, our readers, wasn't built overnight. We thank you for it, and we'll work to maintain it.

As we look back at 2018, here are a few of the photographs that moved you and made an impact on our community. We hope they will help you remember the joys and struggles, the laughter and tears, of a remarkable year.
