Although “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” doesn’t reach theaters until Dec. 20, the film already broke a record Monday night for the most tickets sold within the first hour of sales. The record was previously broken earlier this year by “Avengers: Endgame.”

According to CNBC, the achievement came as the final trailer was released for “The Rise of Skywalker,” which marks the end of the entire Skywalker saga.

According to Deadline, “The Rise of Skywalker” ended up selling 45% more tickets in the first hour on Atom Tickets than “Endgame.” This put the film at the top of the five bestselling movies on Atom, followed by “Avengers: Endgame,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”

In an interview earlier this year with ComicBook.com, director J.J. Abrams explained that the ninth installment of the saga — which started in 1977 with “A New Hope” — will focus on the main characters finishing their adventure together.

“(I) will say that the fun of this movie is that these characters are all together on this adventure as a group,” Abrams said to ET Canada. “That’s the thing that I was most excited about to see, the dynamic between these characters that these amazing actors play on this desperate, seat-of-your-pants adventure. That, to me, was the most fun, having the group together.”
