Really since even before the BYU Cougars won the college football national championship in 1984, some people have put an asterisk by it, claiming the Cougars didn’t deserve the crown.

In a 92-second video posted on ESPN earlier this week, BYU’s title was remembered as part of a tease for the show “The American Game: Bowls, Polls & Champions.”

The clip contains commentary from ESPN’s Holly Rowe, who later attended both BYU and the University of Utah, as well as appearances by then-Oklahoma Sooners (and later Dallas Cowboys) head coach Barry Switzer.

At the end of the video, an excerpt of an old interview with former Cougars head coach LaVell Edwards is shown, in which he says, “I just have never felt like we had to apologize for our schedule or the people that we’ve played.”
